The Assistant Editor—Devozine & Pockets contributes to the overall publishing work of Devozine and Pockets by performing editorial tasks, including copy selection, writing some features, copyediting, proofreading, permissions, evaluation of design and layout, coordination with designers, maintenance/upkeep of websites, and social media content creation.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated knowledge and experience in editorial practices and procedures; demonstrates oral and written communication skills; professional experience in publishing; strong attention to detail; knowledge of page layout design and production; knowledge of basic Biblical content and theology of the United Methodist Church; knowledge of and experience in spiritual formation for children and youth; demonstrated cultural sensitivity. Mastery of English language, grammar, punctuation; knowledge of copyright law; ability to do research; organizational skills; ability to conceptually think through processes; ability to manage concurrent multiple projects and to meet deadlines; ability to work in a team environment; ability to exercise courtesy and tact with a diverse group of external and internal customers; ability to use direction, judgment, and initiative and to make decisions; ability to work independently; demonstrated proficiency on Mac, Microsoft Word, InDesign, as well as some experience with Photoshop and HTML; experience writing blogs, creating videos/podcasts, and leading workshops preferred.
Education / Specialized Knowledge / Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. / Some professional experience in print and digital publishing; knowledge of spiritual formation for children/youth. / One to three years of related experience.

Position Overview: We are searching for a candidate with a profound understanding of United Methodist theology and a desire to share that through inventive use of social media. The ideal candidate will have a strong spiritual perspective to oversee and provide online pastoral guidance and engagement with seekers and digitally connect them with members of The United Methodist Church.
The ultimate goal is to bridge seekers with local congregations and develop a deeper faith engagement in the church.
He/She will provide direction of sacred content geared for 18-34 year olds often disengaged from church by working with writers, study leaders, clergy and agencies of the UMC.
He/She will also provide innovative and strategic use of social media to disciple new persons for Christ, maintain RethinkChurch-linked social media outlets (including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube), and collaborate with other members of the RethinkChurch team to create and enhance social media, mobile and member strategies in support of the ministry and mission of The United Methodist Church.
